You Have To Put Out To Be Popular- by Brinda Berry
You do have to put out in order to gain readers. Okay, so the title is highly suggestive of things I don’t want you to put out. No boob pictures on Twitter are required. This post is about putting yourself in the places where readers may look. You must put your information out there on the web. We are going to discuss Amazon’s Author Central. First, please click on the link below to check out my page. While you are there, feel free to click on the LIKE button in the top, right corner. Go. Then come back and read how easy this is.
Once you have your first published book for sale on Amazon, you should create this page. If you don’t have a published book yet, just store this on a “to-do list” where you won’t forget it. You may use your regular Amazon login information and go to Author Central.
Here you will find these options:
You can create your PROFILE by adding
- Biography
- Author Photo
- Blog Feed
- Twitter Posts
- Videos
You can also link your BOOKS to your author profile. Then all your books for sale on Amazon will be listed on your author page.
These are all things the readers might want to access when they click on the link for the author page. When a reader is on one of my book pages, there is a link at the bottom that says:
More About the Author
I don’t have any Customer Discussions at the bottom of my author page, but I would love that. It would be fun to see what interests readers about my books.
As an author, I can log in to Author Central and see my Sales Info. Here you will find a line graph that charts your sales in a 2-week, a month, or all available display.
So, do you have an Amazon Author Page? If you do, leave us the link where we can check it out and go “LIKE” you.
Is this new information? Did you want to shoot me for giving your something to add to your to-do list? It only takes minutes to create and gives readers a list of all your works and social media information.
BIO: Brinda lives in the southern US with her family and two spunky cairn terriers. She’s terribly fond of chocolate, coffee, and books that take her away from reality.
SQUEEEE! I opened my email this morning to discover GLORIA RICHARD had a new post!
How cool is that?
I guess I should write an intro, right? Geesh! BRIN has been hanging out at my place so long, she has her own monogrammed glob towels.
Go on! Go LIKE her at Amazon Facebook. She knows her stuff on
stalkinganalyzing on-line pings.Sorry I’m so sneaky!!
You mean this ISN’T Brinda Berry’s blog?
Brinda Berry, ladies and gentlemen, proving once again she is my one-stop shop for all things author-techie.
Monogrammed gLOB towels. Ka-snort!
I have my Goodreads page, but Amazon will have to wait for the BIG! DIGITAL! RELEASE! And then…
And then, I will return to this post for a refresher!
You may use my monogrammed towels.
Hi Brinda– Very timely. This is actually on my list for this week. Thanks for the tips!
Yay!
Great advice! Now if I would just finish my book, then I could work on my author’s page!
This would be a great post to include in my Use Me and Abuse Me day. Readers would love it. Don’t forget to stop by today!
Thx. I will, sounds like a good time.
Brinda, love your social media post. Would you consider doing a online program for my poor chapter in SC. By poor, I really mean poor. We’ve just started and our membership is still low.
Carole- thanks! I’ll email you.
As always, I am grateful and appreciative to BOTH of you ladies for putting this info out there for the techno-challenged among us. Will be bookmarking this for the day when I actually get the WIP done and actually get it published.
Thanks, Tami. This is one of those easy-to-do tasks. It maintains itself once you set it up.
Brinda, when (not if, Gloria) the day comes, I will be glad to take lessons from you … you little devil you 🙂 In the meantime … in between time … I like you … I really like you !! Off to make sure I’ve “liked” you on FB. Keep these lessons coming, who knows that some day soon Gloria and I can apply some of it 🙂
Yes, WHEN.
I like the Amazon Author page; it was easy to set up. Here’s mine (I hope):

Thanks for this post. I didn’t realize there was the Like button to the side (but I liked yours to see the number change–Yea!), nor did I know I could see my sales from here either. I’ll have to go figure that out.
Char- I “liked” you! Yes, just go to the login at authorcentral.amazon.com to get your sales chart. Congrats on your May release!
Char: Your link worked. I just liked you! Yay!!!
Thanks, Brinda. Not haveinga book published yet, it’s interesting and informative to see all the things you can do when I (hopefully) get there.
Cheers!
Sometimes it happens faster than you think and it’s good to be ready!
Someday! Someday! *sigh*
I’d say someday SOON. 🙂
I think Brinda knows everything. What she doesn’t know, isn’t worth knowing.
HA! I wish. Then I’d know the magic formula besides hard work.
I’ve had a profile on Amazon and love it. Many forget about this little marketing tool and it comes in handy so very much.
Savannah…you didn’t leave your link! Here is Savannah’s if you want to go and “like” her.Savannah’s Amazon page
I just did.
Great post. I went to your Amazon page and realized I’d already liked it. I’m not surprise. Love your books!! 🙂 I have a page as well: http://www.amazon.com/Lynn-Rush/e/B005G3NVBQ/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1 I like checking out the other pages and seeing how things are laid out. I have a couple videos on mine and twitter connected. 🙂 Thanks for sharing today. Good stuff here!
Guess what. I checked your page and I already liked you, too. You have cool videos. It’s neat that you put the book signing one on your page.
Thanks for the info. Honestly, I don’t log in too much into Author Central. I take a peek every few months. I know I should do more with it.

I went to your page and learned some new things about you. Very nice! I also “LIKED” you while I was there.
No author page here, but it sounds like a useful online profile for letting potential readers know what you’ve written.
I hope to someday have my page filled with my books!
I have an author central page, not sure if it’s doing much currently for my book, but it’s my only way to gauge my Amazon sales. Love that! And someone said you can do one on Amazon international too, haven’t gotten there yet. That’s on my list!
I “liked” you and love the pic you have there. Here is Jessica’s link if you would like to give her a click:

Brinda, I was just talking about this at lunch the other day, so this post is kismet. Thank you!!
You’re welcome. Thanks for reading and sharing with your friends on social media. 🙂
I can’t wait to get my Amazon page. Then it all seems more “public” where everything right now feels like it is happening “behind the scenes”
It will be here before you know it. Do you have your to-do list ready?
I have a 55 page to-do list from my publisher. I’ve read it once, I’m doing most of it, but some if it makes me cringe.
I have an Amazon page. I must update my bio. One thing – if your book is for sale in the UK you can set up a page at Amazon UK too as well as the German and other ones. You need to know German though for that one. 🙂
OMG!!! I have a UK one as well and haven’t set it up. I just looked. THANK YOU. I love UK readers and don’t want to forget them. I am setting up now at authorcentral.amazon.co.uk . Since I don’t speak German, I would be lost on that page.
I’m sharing your page where you can be “liked” for the US profile, and I didn’t see a “like” button on the UK one. Hmm….

All hail Brenda Berry! I can’t get enough of your tutorial blogs. A million thanks from the beginners and less tech savvy! And thank, Gloria, for hosting.
Hello funny Megan,
I can’t wait for you to have your author page. 🙂
Great tips. I do have an Amazon Author Page – finally! I’d love for you to LIKE it here:
http://www.amazon.com/author/ckilgore
Carol- I liked your page! Thanks for your comment.
I realized that I do have an author page, somehow it’s a mess, two books were missing and I have no ‘likes’ because I wasn’t aware of them until now. Thank you Brinda, you rock!!!

I’ve liked and tweeted it!
