Brinda Berry’s peeps called my peeps me to schedule a date for the launch of her new book Whisper of Memory, the second in her Whispering Wood Series.
In a word: Yes!
In two words: Heck, yes!
In three words: Hot-diggity-dog! Delighted, I’m sure.
I read The Waiting Booth, the first in the series and lurched at graciously accepted the opportunity to get her name and her new book in front of as many readers as possible. I knew it would endear me to them forever. Take a peek at this rocking hot cover.
Kind of reminds me of me at that age.
Or, not.
HERE IT IS–THE COVER AND BLURB; THE MUCH ADO ABOUT WONDERFUL
Weapons training and winter formals… a deadly combination…
All Mia ever wanted was to fit in at Whispering Woods High. But being a portal-finder who dates a guy from another dimension sort of makes it hard. A month ago her brother disappeared, and agents from the IIA began policing people’s movements through dimensions. She’d trusted Dr. Bleeker from the local university when he’d told her the IIA were the bad guys. But even a girl with an extraordinary ability to sense things can make mistakes.
Now two people are dead, and as a portal gatekeeper for the IIA, Mia needs to find Dr. Bleeker before he hurts anyone else. And her boyfriend Regulus, an Agent for the IIA, carries secrets of his own. Between learning about weaponry, finding the perfect dress for the winter formal, and catching bad guys, who has time to fit in?
BONUS! Brinda invited me to share memories about my high school years.
Did anything extraordinary happen during my high school years?
Ordinary things wouldn’t be Whispers of Memory mumble-mumble years later, would they?
From Brinda’s blurb: “…dates a guy from another dimension.”
I dated a guy from another dimension.
In my two-hops-and-one-altar-call-from-damnation Protestant upbringing, dating a Catholic was paramount to dating an alien. Dad’s inevitable question squelched floating euphoria after my second date with my first love, my high school sweetheart.
“Where does he go to Church?” he asked.
From Brinda’s blurb: “…being a portal finder…”
In High School, my paramount mission was to keep my glee portals free from alien invasion of parental control. My guy had a name ending with “sky.” Not your typical W.A.S.P. name.
My weapon of choice was Britannica Encyclopedia; Poland, Religion. I discovered most were Catholic, but a pocket of Baptists occupied a pocket in the South (I think). So, I made him a Baptist.
Why go to the trouble of looking it up?
Because I always covered possible worst-case scenarios. If Dad challenged me, I would feign disbelief and suggest we look it up together.
Why did my HS sweetheart go along with the ruse for two years? I hope it was that Whisper of Memory from our first kiss–my first real kiss.
I clearly remember where I stood (in the driveway at my friends house) and how I felt (toe tingling) and the hours afterwards (staring out my friend’s window at the night sky wondering; just wondering).
Whisper of Memory. Sweet. Clear. Innocent. Hopeful.
And, Brinda captured the essence of that in kiss in this excerpt from The Waiting Booth. The first kiss between Mia and Regulus.
“He came even closer. I felt as gooey as a chocolate bar left in a hot car. My insides trembled. He set his lips on mine.”
“I had been kissed before…but I had never felt as though the guy tasted my mouth…”
“The pressures of his lips was warm and soft…sent tremor and heat from my head to the ends of my toes.”
Okay.
So.
I’m fuzzy-headed with the way Brinda worked her magic on my Whisper of Memory.
Time to segue back to the main attraction.
Brinda Berry, the author also moonlights as Brinda Berry the film-maker. Click on the video below to view her trailer for Whisper of Memory.
This post wouldn’t be complete without a bit about Brinda, my friend, my techie guru, and the creator of those magic words that expressed what I felt.

Oh, Gloria, you had me at portal-finding Catholic from another dimension. You set the bar high, my friend. How can any silly memory of mine measure up to that?
i remember my first not-so-real-kiss from a boy at least two grade levels ahead of me, at a school dance. Out of the blue he said, “I’m Colin,” and he asked me to slow dance. When the song was over he said thank you and gave me a quick peck on the lips. The kiss was real, as in the opposite of imaginary, but little did I know, it was not a real, real kiss. I had just turned fourteen, and was totally convinced Colin–who I’d never seen before or since–and I were headed for the altar.
Yeah, I spent a few too many years in the world of Barbie.
I think I’m in love with this Colin kid. He’s brave….one dance and he swoops in for the kiss. Wow. 🙂
And, therein lies your problem, Sherry.
Ken was not anatomically correct. Besides, at fourteen, I would not have been ready for a toe-tingler.
Someone two grade levels older than you asked you to dance? Whoa! At fourteen I hadn’t yet convinced Mom and Dad I would not to go hell for dancing.
Geesh! The brick walls I had to pound my way through to get to that “fit in” place from Brinda’s blurb.
Gloria- You dated a guy from another dimension? I love that. lol. Thank you so very much for helping me on this mega-exciting day. It’s made even better due to the support of my writer friends like you.
The pleasure was all mine, Brinda. Your books are a wonderful, emotive read.
Especially for those of us with imaginations capable of time-travel back to our days of innocence.
What a fun read and ride.
If Gloria has the keys to the interdimensional portal… can we pull out an anatomically correct Ken?
Great blog launch for Brinda’s book. You brought back memories of sitting in the journalism office during lunch…alone…lip-locking. Hehe.
Brinda, the book sounds wounderful. No wonder so many adults are reading YA these days. Best of luck with sales.
So you volunteered to “work” on journalism during your lunch hour? The dedication in youth amazes me. 😉 Thanks for the giggle.
NOW, I know why a little voice on my left shoulder whispered “volunteer for the yearbook committee, volunteer for the yearbook committee….”
Thanks for the visit, Judythe. What a fun name. The word play potential for blog topics boggles…
No, Wait! I have one! Too bad I don’t have your name. Thanks for visiting. My brain
neededwanted a shiny bauble to chase for a bit.Gloria, you are as always hilarious and a great read. Brinda, I am so happy to share these moments with you. High School? What’s that? Oh yeah, I remember. High school is what my twin grandchildren attend while granny sneaks to Facebook and steals their pics from my rotten son who never sends their pics. High school memories? How’s this for a memory. I went to an all girl science school in Brooklyn with a graduating class of 812 girls. The only opposite sex contact was on the bus with the boys from the local Catholic HS along the same route. Results? Lots of Friday night dances and basketball games at the Catholic school and one memorably afternoon in a dark movie theatre. If memory serves … we kissed. I think he has six kids and fifteen grandchildren … perspective is such a strange teacher. Brinda … You go girl and get the word out about your great work. Do I read YA? Maybe. Will I love being part of your launch and adding to Gloria’s madenss … why not. Love you guys and keep spreading the good news 🙂
Florence- I agree that Gloria is always hilarious. Goodness knows I need as much humor as possible these days. I can’t imagine going to an all-girl school. I’m sure that made the Friday night dances and basketball games that much sweeter.
Florence and Brinda — insert the Aw, shucks Emoticon Guy with the rosy cheeks…
On his face, for crumb’s sake.
Florence, I can not imagine going to an all girl’s high school. But, that alien Catholic guy must have been a good kisser. Six kids?
If it was all male Catholic high school boys on the bus, those were some [multiple choice] a) randy b) dandy c) hot rides home.
I haven’t been a big YA paranormal reader, but I always love giving something new a try, and this series sounds like something I would read. I’ll be checking it out 🙂
I’m with you, Marcy. I hadn’t been a YA reader ever. I skipped from Trixie Beldon (my personal favorUrite over Nancy, as that Sherry Isaac knows) to romance.
Brinda’s books are a fun stroll down memory lane. They’re filled with adventure and (obviously) some pretty cool visceral reactions.
Hi Marcy *waving*
It’s nice to meet you here at Gloria’s. 🙂
Congrats, Brinda, on the release of Whisper of Memory! This was fun to read. Best wishes to you for a fantastic launch!!
(Gloria, I’d almost forgotten about Trixie Beldon! Too funny!)
Hi Jill,
Thanks for the support! I’ve had a wonderful day made even better by celebrating with good friends. I’m so thankful for Gloria and her view of the world.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Jill.
Woot! Someone who remembers Trixie. I’m in need of members for my side of the Nancy v. Trixie debate. Send fellow supporters my way.
Great book launch and congrats to you, Brinda! I now have another book for my to-be-read collection. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I’m particularly grateful, given your questionable state-of-psyche after the Dear Benedict post at your site.
Go on! Fess up! In your imaginary world was he a great kisser?
You’re killing me here, Gloria.
Is it hot in here or is it just me? *frantically fans self*
Benedict and I are just *clears throat* good, close friends. You’ll have to read his letters to me in the coming weeks to find out more… 😉
I think I have my answer, but I eagerly await his letters to you in the coming weeks.
Tami- Thanks for the congrats!
I love YA! I’ve one completed during the Nano frenzy but I wouldn’t show it to anyone at this point. Brinda, great trailer. Different from what’s out there, and different is good.
Adding Whisper of Memory to my TBR pile!
Hey, Carole! thanks for the visit. I’m sure Brinda handles out-of-order reads in her series masterfully.
However, if you miss The Waiting Booth you’ll miss that melting chocolate kiss. Just saying…
Thanks, Carole! Yay for YA. 🙂 It’s so much fun.
